Scott Embry

Pledge Class:  Gamma Gamma - Fall 1996
Big Brother:  Darren Gantt
Little Brother:  Matt Shrewsberry

Greatest Sigma Chi Memory:  I guess the best story I can recall was when myself and all of the Gamma Gamma pledge class (GG raise 'em up) walked in the front door of the house on a random night, drunk off our ass and runnin' our mouths (or at least I was...as usual).  Jake Sexton (who was much, much larger at the time) started talking back about how he was gonna own me and my pledge book the next day.  My response was "Go f yourself truckass, you ain't gonna do sh*t!!!" over and over again.  I didn't stop there, I then started calling out every brother in sight as if there wasn't gonna be any repercussion.  No one could do anything to me at the time, because the whole pledge class was together.  The next day Jake destroyed everyone of the pages in my pledge book and nailed the cover to a tree, or hung it from the flagpole, or maybe dumped in the mop bucket and took a dump on it. I can't remember what happened to it that time.  Needless to say, my book took a lot of punishment as did my pledge brothers for my actions. Pledgeship was a monumental period in my life.  There were only seven of us, but we were tight and I learned the true meaning of brotherhood.  I will take those many memories to the grave.

Family Profile: I am married to Amanda Culp.  She is from Prospect, KY in Oldham County, a 2004 Florida State University alum and is a Zeta Tau Alpha.  We have a son, Tucker Gray Embry, born May 10th, 2007.

Hometown:  Louisville, KY

Where and What Now?:  I am a district manager for Diesel Injection Service Company based out of Louisville.  I enjoy golf, horse racing, college football and basketball and spending time with my fam.

Quote:  Here's a great quote from Allen Iverson after playing 52 minutes against the Lakers in game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals. The media guy asked, "Allen are you fatigued after playing 52 minutes?" Allen response was, "Naw man, fatigues is army clothes."

Greatest Sigma Chi Memory:  There are two that stand out:  Gamma Gamma's Sunday night ritual of smoking cigs and trying to get Embry to remember his stuff.  And the night that I got Brandon as my little brother.

Quote:  "Integrity is who you are when no one is looking."  I learned quite a bit about this through major mistakes.  What I lacked at one time, I aspire to with everything I have now.

Life Now:  I travel throughout the United States, 43 states so far.  I am currently working towards my masters degree in management.  About a year ago I took up running and have completed four half marathons, one full, and many small trail runs.  Most of my time is spent with Traci and the kids.

Hope everyone is doing well.  Fight the good fight.

Pledge Class: Beta Phi ("Perhaps the greatest pledge class in ET history")
Big Brother: Matt Berhow
Little Brother: Derrick Fogle

Greatest Sig Memory: Let me give you a couple:
1) In general, I was a big fan of Brother’s Day. Beta Phi was a force at Brother’s Day for roughly eight years (and could be today if we could show up). I am a competitive guy and there was nothing better that being able to compete with and against your closest friends. I am proud to remain undefeated in my lifetime in the Keg/Tire Toss. Let the young ones know I am always up for a challenge if they think they can battle an old man.
2) As a pledge, three of us (myself, Brad Hawthorne and the late Scott Raycraft – RIP my friend) took a mini-road trip to the University of Illinois. My car broke down on the way out of town and we borrowed the car of another pledge brother – Ryan Midyett. We visited the Kappa Kappa chapter and went to the Illinois Wisconsin football game. While at the game, someone sideswiped Midyett’s car in the parking lot. After calling and explaining to Ryan – we headed back to Murray Sunday morning before our pledge meeting. On the way, the water pump went out in Ryan’s car and we had to have another pledge (Mike Williams) drive and pick us up. We got back late – barely made the pledge meeting. It was big brother ceremony and our crosses were ridiculously incomplete. The actives were not happy and neither was Ryan as his wrecked car had to be towed back to Murray two days later.

Family profile: I married my college sweetheart, Kerrie. We have two children James (4) and Rachel (2). James is ready for college now as we have been working on “beatdown” techniques for 2 years. Look out Dion he could whoop your butt right now.

Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri

Where & What Now?: We are living in Alpharetta, Georgia. I am currently the CFO for Sanford Brands, a division of Newell Rubbermaid. We make Sharpies, PaperMate pens, Liquid Paper, etc.

Quote: “Why? Because you are my brother that’s why.” Or over the intercom system “Gentlemen, the next game of Psycho begins in two minutes”

Jason Farthing '96

Pledge Class: Beta Upsilon
Big Brother: John Whitaker
Little Brother: Mike Barnhart

Greatest Sig Memory: A couple things stick out. In 1993/1994 when we were the largest Fraternity on campus with over 100 brothers; Serving as Magister during the semester we didn't have a house; and pitching for the B team in Softball. Seriously, just the experience as a whole has served me well, and it still affects my life positively today.

Family profile: Married 5 years this coming May ('07). My wife Tanya is an RN and works for Stonecrest Hospital in Smyrna. I have two girls, Abbi Grayce who is 3, and Anabelle who is 19 months. They are a joy to me daily.

Hometown: Grew up in Sturgis, KY. Went to Union County High.

Where & What Now?: We live in Smyrna, TN which is 25 miles from downtown Nashville. I work for the Tennessean, which is a Gannett owned newspaper. I work in the Operations department, where I've been for the last 4 years.
